My Last Night

I decided to have an impromptu photo shoot in honor of my last night with box braids. I enjoyed playing with my hair, with my accessories, and with lipsticks. I did 4 different hairstyles, different accessories and different lipsticks. You can't notice but I changed lipstick colors and tried to match the accessories. In the attached pictures I wore purple, blue,  black, and red lipstick. Well, without holding you up any longer, I hope you like my shoot...

New Style, New Attitude

I'm not sure what happened but I typed the below message almost 3 weeks ago when I first had my hair braided.

Good afternoon...

I'm excited, I've wanted braids for a long time (like over 5 years) and I finally went to get my hair braided. I love my box braids. I cannot wait until they loosen some so I can begin to style them. I have to admit I didn't know they would be so heavy, a little painful, and that I wouldn't know how to sleep, lol. Here are some pictures and I will post more in detail next weekend. Have an awesomeness day and thanks for reading.

Fast forward to today...

BOX BRAIDS ARE HARD!!!

I have had 3 weeks of struggles. I thought braids were supposed to be easy. I thought wake up in the morning, do something simple to my braids and have a beautiful style all day. I thought my time getting ready would be reduced. I WAS WRONG.I went from quick hairstyles to spending over 30-45 minutes trying to styles my braids and they look horrible. I had so many misconceptions. I've had "braids shock".  With all the problems, time consuming days, having co-workers help me, I wouldn't trade my braids experience. I've also decided instead of braids, get twists...and use a professional.

Off to research how long my hair needs to rest before I attempt twists.

Wish me luck...

You KNOW I had to do it..........

Good Afternoon Lovelies……

No matter what type of eating regimen that I am on there are two constants in my life that are my dear, dear LOVES and I cannot even imagine parting with, not even for a day……Coffee and Potatoes.  I love all types of Potatoes; baked, mashed, broiled, grilled, fried and of course, potato chips.  Which leads me to the topic of today’s entry………Lays Cappuccino flavored chips.  Now you know that I could not pass on the opportunity to do a taste test for you guys.  I have already prefaced this test with the fact that I am both a coffee and chip lover, which already favors well for this bag of Lays.  Chad Scott, the finalist that entered the Cappuccino flavor, is a coffee lover from Modesto, CA.  My kinda guy.  So…….let’s get started.

First of all, you probably already know what the bag looks like……..

After opening the bag, I took a whiff…..smells like coffee and cinnamon. YUM!!!

After opening the bag, I took a whiff…..smells like coffee and cinnamon. YUM!!!   The first bite is quite unique.  The smell overpowers the taste so I get no chip flavor, only coffee flavoring with a chip crunch.  With my second chip, I get the same flavor, texture combo.  Because there are not two flavors competing with one another, I actually like what I taste.  I was a bit skeptical but overall, it is not bad, not bad at all.

Monarch Butterflies make me Happy!!

Good Afternoon Lovelies……

Although I do LOVE Summer so very much, I do appreciate the fall, particularly the colors.  This is why I was so excited to get my package yesterday evening in the mail.  I was watching YouTube a few weeks ago and saw the most gorgeous pair of earrings on Ms. Toni Daley (Tonidaley.com).  I absolutely adore her earrings and already have a few pair but THIS pair was EVERYTHING.  I knew I had to have them so I ordered a pair.  First, let me say that as soon as I saw them, I was immediately reminded of the fall and here is why……

Monarch Butterflies!!!!  I thought that the caged packaging was brilliant and I that made them even more unique and gorgeous.  I can’t wait to try them on for a little spin at the first tough of cool, autumn air.  If you, like me, have a thing for unique earrings, please check out Ms. Daley’s website for some fancy items……

I Love Packages

Happy Monday...

Don't you just love coming home to packages?

I have been on a mini shopping spree lately and I love packages. I decided to shop more in my attempt to shed my "Plain Jane" shell. I hope to have a complete wardrobe with all cute clothes instead of trying to make a cute outfit.

I hope you all will agree that I'm transforming but for now I'm off to open my packages.

It's Monday and I am blogging again.........

Good Afternoon Lovelies……

I am back; well, for now that is.  I find it really difficult to stay on task and blog regularly.  I think that put too much pressure to deliver a blog worth reading.  I really have no desire to post just for the sake of saying that I posted but I need to find some motivation that will keep me posting regularly.  I’m sure you guys can relate.  This summer has literally flown right on by.  This has been a very challenging year for me.  I lost some very important people in my life.  My Aunt passed away in April and she was literally my second Mother.  I was totally devastated by her passing.  When I was just beginning to get my feet under me, my Father passed away.  He had been ill for about a year buthis passing was still an immense shock and beyond devastating.  I am slowly trying to come to grips with the fact that I won’t see or talk to these extremely important people in my life again.  Everything outwardly tells me that I am coping and that I am slowly getting back to normal but something deep down inside refuses to budge.  I feel like I am running around and around and going nowhere.  My daily life has become an existence.  I’ve traveled more than usual this summer hoping that in some small way, I can begin to enjoy some parts of my life again.  In many ways it has become nothing more than a shield or sorts; allowing me to appear to be healing.  I am hoping that getting back to something that I love, writing, will help me begin the healing process.  This post may be a bit more than you bargained for from a fashion blog but, I felt I owed it to myself to be true to what I feel on any given day and today, I felt like using this blog as therapy.  Until the next post……..

It's Mardi Gras / Fat Tuesday

It's time to party it up, and ....eat!!

Fat Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday. It is also known as Mardi Gras Day or Shrove Day. It is a day when people eat all they want of everything and anything they want as the following day is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of a long fasting period for Christians. In addition to fasting, christians also give up something special that they enjoy. So, Fat Tuesday is a celebration and the opportunity to enjoy that favorite food or snack that you give up for the long lenten season.

Nowhere on the planet is Fat Tuesday celebrated more than on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The day is celebrated with festivities and parades and of course much food and drink. While in New Orleans, a big tradition is in wearing Mardi Gras beads and giving them to others. And tradition requires that if a guy gives a girl some beads, she has to do something for him.....this can be just loads of fun...

It's Saturday and Freezing

I'm freezing in Detroit and have no motivation to go out in the freezing weather. I have not posted in a while so I'll like to share my latest purchases. This has not been a good year for me and boots. I've been looking for some riding boots but couldn't pass up the deal on the boots I purchased. On a side note, I wear a size 12 and never knew Nine West carried my size. Well here are my purchases.

Just call me Julia Child!!!

Happy Friday Lovlies!!!!

I am a recent convert to a gluten free lifestyle and I am loving the results.  I sleep much better and most importantly, I wake up much better.  I used to feel like death warmed over in the mornings during my gluten days, now my body doesn’t have such a hard time getting moving.  There are different levels of gluten free living and I am taking this journey one day at a time.  I’m sure over the past 2 months some gluten products have passed through these lips but for the most part, I am conscience of what I eat.  I’ve always been a label reader so that part wasn’t a big change for me.  So yesterday I was contemplating what to make for dinner and because I am a HUGE fan of Mexican fare and that is a very good option for folks that stay away from gluten, I figured that would be perfect.  I decided on a Fajita salad as I had a great flank steak in the fridge just waiting to be prepared.  It was a relatively quick and easy dinner to prepare and was FABULOUS…..I think this is worth sharing.

Ingredients:

1 1/2lbs Flank Steak

1 cup Basmati Brown Rice

1 can of Black Beans (rinsed)

Arugula Mix

Fajita Veggie Mix (sautéed in garlic and olive oil)

Avocado Slices

Tomatoes

Plain Greek Yogurt

Cheese (Optional)

Homemade Salsa

For those that enjoy homemade Mexican fair but like to keep it light, this is certainly worth a try……………….

TGIF

I just wanted to say, yes, it's Friday. Thank you God for allowing us up see this day. I've falling in luv with Instagram (_RubyRules) so if you are on there stop by and look at our pics.

Have an amazing day.

Big Hair Don't Care!!

GOOD AFTERNOON HONEY BUNNIES!!!!!
I got a quick bolt of energy and felt inspired to write a post.  I must say, I have been feeling quite hum drum and haven’t been in the mood to shop for ANYTHING in the past few months.  I think I just have Holiday fatigue.  All the looking and shopping and deals, it just got to be way too much.  (I never thought I would EVER not be inspired to shop.)  But what I HAVE been into lately is……………WIGS!!  Yes, the cold weather and my lack of inspiration for anything, including wrestling with my hair has drawn me to the wide, wide world of wigs and let me say, they are FAB!  I am in love.  The amazing Toni Daley (tonidaley.com) is giving me such life with her wonderful array of wigs and wig reviews.  I actually just purchased a wig that she reviewed and when I sat back and thought about what I paid for it I have come to realize that wig shopping has superseded my clothes shopping.  That is why I have lost my zest for shopping.  It’s not lost, it has simply been transferred.  I literally just came to this realization while typing this post.  You guys are definitely my therapy…thanks for the “breakthrough”………………….

I Can See Clearly Now ~ Vision Board

Well my intention was to post yesterday but I took a snow day and I think I have a touch of the stomach flu or some type of stomach virus. It totally sucks.

Okay, well Good morning to the third day and First Friday of 2014.

I am a little behind but I wanted to share that I will be doing a vision board this year and I encourage you to do the same. One of my sorority sisters shared how to do a virtual board on Pinterest (http://www.Pinterest.com). Here is the website with the information http://www.makeavisionboard.com. I'll post mines once I finish my board and I hope you will join me and share yours also.

Happy 2014

I came across this story and it's so fitting to share the first day of the year. Let's have an awesome 2014.

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey. He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

MORAL : Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up. Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.
2. Free your mind from worries - Most never happens.
3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less from people but more from yourself.
