Magnificent March...

It's the 3rd month, the beginning of the end of the first quarter of the year.

Good evening Lovelies,

Did you set resolutions our goals for the year? Are you on target? Have you forgotten what you wanted to do this year?

I don't really resolve to do things anymore. They usually fall by the wayside by now anyway. I've been trying something new, I set goals. I would like to say they work but I fall short on them also.

I think about this blog, my post, our followers and I want it to be meaningful when you give me some of your time. That's one of my goals.

2015 will be the year of great things for me and for you. I'm still trying to find my groove but I'm not giving up on making this a "must see daily stop" for you.

I just wanted to share what's on my mind and I hope years from now, you'll still be following us and we can laugh and talk about our struggles now.

I've missed you so...and I hope you've missed me too. Hopefully you had a chance to watch yesterday's, "Saturday with Sonya" video but if not, I'm back!!!

I know you're excited, I am too. I can't wait to share with you  and discuss my day, what's going on, what's in the works, overall I'm glad.

I'm looking forward to spring. Has anyone started shopping? I haven't but I know I'll begin sooner than later.

Good evening Lovelies,

I've missed you all the last couple of days. I feel like I'm missing something when I don't post. Thursday and Friday was so busy and I was tired. I'm going to try and post in the mornings so hopefully nothing will interfere with my posting.

It's Saturday and I will shoot and post my video later. I'm looking forward to the theme and to use my new camera.

Change of topic: Have any of you watched Arrow, it's a show on Netflix. I'm not sure if it was on regular tv or just a Netflix series but it's pretty good.

Ash Wednesday 2015

"Pain is weakness leaving the body" ~ unknown Good evening Lovelies, Happy Ash Wednesday, Happy First Day of Lent, Happy Day to you.  I have to ask the question that you'll probably hear a million times this week, what are you giving up for Lent? I think I should do like I did a couple of years ago and not give up anything. As easy as that sounds, there is no way I can go into Lent and not do "something" to bring me closer to God, to sacrifice. I asked so now I'll answer...I'm doing the clean eating so I will not eat anything processed. I am also  going to try and do everything with love. I want to show love, give off love, spread love, and promote love. Lent is a challenge so I'll be prayerful. Please add / keep me (and Kayla and families) in your prayers. Lovingly,

I struggled with my post today.  I could not think of anything, which is rare because I think about this blog and YouTube channel all the time.  I decided to discuss our better days. I love the quote from Luther Vandross above.  The best part is still ahead of me (and you).  The quote reminds me of one of my favorite toasts. It's...may the best of your today's be the worst of your tomorrows". There is always better, (say it with me...there is always better") and my best is still ahead and your best is still ahead.

I will leave you with a quote my mom always told me:

With February being both Black History Month and Heart Health Month, we want to celebrate a Woman You Should Know who deserves recognition across all fronts. Meet Myra Adele Logan (1908 – 1977), a pioneering doctor known for her selfless, humanitarianism. She is another perfect example of an extraordinary woman we sadly never learned about in school, which is truly dumbfounding given her impressive accomplishments and historic firsts. Here’s the long overdue history lesson… WYSK style.

Myra was born in 1908 in Tuskegee, Alabama, the eighth child of Warren and Adella Hunt Logan. Her father was the treasurer of Alabama’s Tuskegee Institute and her mother, a noted suffragist and health care activist, had a college degree – rare for a woman of that time, especially a black woman. Needless to say, her parents held education and optimism in the highest regard, neither of which were lost on Myra.

In 1927, she was valedictorian of her graduating class at Atlanta University and went on to earn an MS in psychology from Columbia University. In her first of many firsts, Myra then became the inaugural recipient of the Walter Gray Crump Scholarship for Young Women, which landed her a $10,000 four-year scholarship to attend New York Medical College. After graduating from med school in 1933, she began her internship at Harlem Hospital, where she worked in the emergency room.

In 1943, when open-heart surgery was still in its infancy, Myra, then an associate surgeon, became the first woman to operate on a human heart in only the ninth such operation of its kind anywhere in the world.

Throughout her career Myra studied new antibiotic drugs, and in the 1960’s she researched early detection and treatment for breast cancer, specifically developing a more accurate x-ray process that could detect differences in the density of tissue and discover tumors earlier. Her research saved countless lives.

She was also a charter member of one of the first group practices in the nation, the Upper Manhattan Medical Group of the Health Insurance Plan, a concept that housed physicians of various specialties under one roof… the norm today, but revolutionary at the time.

Myra, who practiced medicine to serve, rather than simply to earn a paycheck, also found the time to address the needs of her community in other ways. She worked with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Planned Parenthood, and the New York State Fair Employment Practices Committee, among other organizations. After her retirement in 1970, she served on the New York State Workmen’s Compensation Board. She was known for encouraging people to walk tall and proud, and be who they wanted to be.

Myra’s myriad of medical and civic achievements led to her election to the American College of Surgeons… she was the first black woman ever to earn this honor.

She died on January 13, 1977 of lung cancer at the age of 68.

Good evening Lovelies,
Happy Monday!!! I hope you're staying warm and dry and bring safe. It's the second day of Black History month and I wanted to inform you of my plans for the month. I will be supporting and highlighting at least one small black business each week. I will include the details of my purchase and about the company. I have a couple items I'm in the process of ordering.
I have to give it more thought but I think my Talkative Tuesday's videos will be about Black History. One of my sorority sisters mentioned that it would be good to state new facts instead of recycling the ones we've heard most of our lives. I am going to try and share new history. Hopefully I can share something you may not know. Let's grow together and learn.
Also most of my daily quotes will be newer quotes. Yesterday I posted a quote from President Barack Obama and today I'm posting a quote from First Lady Michelle Obama. Both quotes are meaningful and I hope you consider and carry them with you.
In case you haven't noticed, I will also post videos on Saturdays. Sometimes it will be a recap of my week or maybe for February, I will use that day to discuss black businesses.
